Whether a death is sudden or expected, the loss of a loved one is indescribable.
- If the death occurs at home or a place of business and they're not under hospice care, notify the police.
- If a death occurs at a hospital or nursing home or hospice facility, the staff will notify the authorities. A funeral home will be notified as well.
- After authorities have been informed, a funeral director will need to be contacted and a meeting will be set usually within 24hrs. Details will be arranged at this time.

Traditionally, a funeral service is held after a visitation as part of a burial service. Both of these ceremonies normally have the casket present, but it is up to you whether to have it open. Additionally, choices must be made regarding the embalming of the body, the type of casket to be used, the cemetery, and the inscription to go on the gravestone.
